Day 7 of A Ten Day Art Challenge – Estas Listo

Sculptor Timothy Nimmo chose me to complete a 10 day art challenge on Facebook beginning Monday July 13 . The purpose of the challenge is to fill Facebook with art and to acknowledge artists.. I admire Tim and love his magnificent art. I am honored and humbled to be included. Today’s entry- Estas Listo

My day 7 post in the 10 Day Art Challenge was Estas Listo, a recently completed piece. A partly shaded spot in a meditation garden in Colorado Springs is home to several giant agave plants. I love their colors which range from cream to blue-green to pale green to lavender. Near the top of the leaves a pattern that reminds me of aztec art appears in the smooth skin. They conjure a mystical desert experience. To some they are just spiky plants to stay away from but to me their shapes make wonderful abstract art especially in the light of early dawn with dark shadows still clinging.

Twist Of Fate

Day 6 of A Ten Day Art Challenge – Twist Of Fate

Sculptor Timothy Nimmo chose me to complete a 10 day art challenge on Facebook beginning Monday July 13 . The purpose of the challenge is to fill Facebook with art and to acknowledge artists.. I admire Tim and love his magnificent art. I am honored and humbled to be included. Today’s entry- Twist Of Fate

My day 6 post in the 10 Day Art Challenge was Twist Of Fate, a recently completed piece. Those were the first words in my mind as I spied the twist of intersecting twirls of green leaves. I was shooting in a meditation garden in Colorado Springs shortly after dawn and this was the first thing I saw. When I opened the photo file in my studio, somehow the energy of the plant took over. I moved rapidly from one adjustment to another and the art took on a life of its own until it was complete. I do not remember how I got to this result and I have since tried to reproduce the look with other pieces but could not. Sometimes the universe speaks and what is supposed to happen does. Enjoy it.

Her Trun To Shine

Day 5 of A Ten Day Art Challenge – Her Turn To Shine

Sculptor Timothy Nimmo chose me to complete a 10 day art challenge on Facebook beginning Monday July 13 . The purpose of the challenge is to fill Facebook with art and to acknowledge artists.. I admire Tim and love his magnificent art. I am honored and humbled to be included. Today’s entry- Her Turn To Shine.

My day 5 post in the 10 Day Art Challenge was Her Turn To Shine, a recently completed piece. I was just walking out of the neighborhood for my dawn hike in Garden Of The Gods Park when I saw this cluster of desert parsley growing at the edge of a neighbor’s property. The weather was slightly hazy and a bit of light shone through and put a spotlight on one blossom. I captured her in her moment in the light. The occasion struck me as a kind of lesson: When it’s your turn to shine step up!

Lily Love

Day 4 of A Ten Day Art Challenge – Lily Love

Sculptor Timothy Nimmo chose me to complete a 10 day art challenge on Facebook beginning Monday July 13 . The purpose of the challenge is to fill Facebook with art and to acknowledge artists.. I admire Tim and love his magnificent art. I am honored and humbled to be included. Today’s entry- Lily Love

My Day 4 post in the 10 Day Art Challenge is Lily Love, a pice I completed today. There is a tenderness about the blossom of this daylily as she opens her heart to the world. I was shooting in a demonstration garden in Colorado Springs at dawn and working strenuously to move my body into the best position and get the light and shadows I was looking for and moving rapidly from plant to plant. When I saw this beauty in the corner of my eye I stopped and stood still. I did a breathing meditation to get more connected to myself and to be able to be with this flower in the present. Then, taking my time I enjoyed finding the light and position that showed her softness and beauty.

Sculptor Timothy Nimmo chose me to complete a 10 day art challenge on Facebook beginning Monday July 13 . The purpose of the challenge is to fill Facebook with art and to acknowledge artists.. I admire Tim and love his magnificent art. I am honored and humbled to be included..

My Day 3 post in the 10 Day Art Challenge is Lasting Beauty, a recently completed piece. I love the dry leaves I find still clinging to trees months after the change of seasons and which are still doing their part in making our world more beautiful. I love their graceful curves and subtle colors but beyond that I honor and revere the beauty within. This curvy cluster was on a fallen branch of cottonwood I found in Garden Of The Gods. For a while I stood and connected with their spirit. Their portrait is not simply dead dry leaves in the light of dawn but a visual poem to their eternal energy.

My second post in the 10 Day Art Challenge was agave, a recently completed piece. Sometimes I visit the Colorado Springs Utilities demonstration garden near Garden Of The Gods to find newly emerged blossoms and to admire some favorites. One old friend is a green giant whose blue and lavender colors come out in highlights and shadows when touched by the morning sun. In the dawn light this stately beauty also reveals a pattern in the leaves that reminds me of an aztec structure.

My first post in the 10 Day Art Challenge was a just completed piece of photo art – Rest. I was hiking in Garden Of The Gods park, a nearly daily activity, when I came across a fallen branch of a Cottonwood tree. The dry, still beautiful leaves were gracefully wearing new shades of copper and silver in the Colorado sun. When I stopped to visit I felt suddenly peaceful and at rest. I honor these leaves for their graceful way of continuing to give.
