Lasting Beauty

Day 3 of A Ten Day Art Challenge – Lasting Beauty

Sculptor Timothy Nimmo chose me to complete a 10 day art challenge on Facebook beginning Monday July 13 . The purpose of the challenge is to fill Facebook with art and to acknowledge artists.. I admire Tim and love his magnificent art. I am honored and humbled to be included..

My Day 3 post in the 10 Day Art Challenge is Lasting Beauty, a recently completed piece. I love the dry leaves I find still clinging to trees months after the change of seasons and which are still doing their part in making our world more beautiful. I love their graceful curves and subtle colors but beyond that I honor and revere the beauty within. This curvy cluster was on a fallen branch of cottonwood I found in Garden Of The Gods. For a while I stood and connected with their spirit. Their portrait is not simply dead dry leaves in the light of dawn but a visual poem to their eternal energy.

Agave

Day 2 of A Ten Day Art Challenge – Agave

My second post in the 10 Day Art Challenge was agave, a recently completed piece. Sometimes I visit the Colorado Springs Utilities demonstration garden near Garden Of The Gods to find newly emerged blossoms and to admire some favorites. One old friend is a green giant whose blue and lavender colors come out in highlights and shadows when touched by the morning sun. In the dawn light this stately beauty also reveals a pattern in the leaves that reminds me of an aztec structure.

10 Day Art Challenge

Day 1 of A Ten Day Art Challenge.

My first post in the 10 Day Art Challenge was a just completed piece of photo art – Rest. I was hiking in Garden Of The Gods park, a nearly daily activity, when I came across a fallen branch of a Cottonwood tree. The dry, still beautiful leaves were gracefully wearing new shades of copper and silver in the Colorado sun. When I stopped to visit I felt suddenly peaceful and at rest. I honor these leaves for their graceful way of continuing to give.

Afternoon In The Garden

Garden Of The Gods Inspires me

It is easy for me to spend an afternoon in the garden. Colorado Springs’ magical paradise , the Garden of the Gods Park , is just a short walk from my home. The Garden is the place where I do my “forest bathing” recharge my batteries and get an inspirational boost.

I usually start my day there just before dawn but I took this photo in late afternoon when these beautiful clouds appeared in our famous Colorado blue sky. Today is father’s day and it is a perfect time to write about inspiration. My father was a man who taught me to “pick yourself up and start all over again, as the old song says. No matter what challenges he was facing he never got down or moody. In today’s time they would say he had a talent for doing a pivot and finding new solutions.

Resilience is a quality my father imbued me with and I am so grateful. So when times get tough I never give up but I just might spend and afternoon in the Garden. Much of my photo art begins in Garden Of The Gods. See my Photo art Gallery for more.
